What to Do If a Trainee Refuses to Take English 360°
The Rule
When a trainee funds their English training through the CPF, taking the certification exam is not optional. The CPF is public money. With the anti-fraud law of June 2026, France Compétences requires a certification outcome for every approved CPF dossier. A trainee who refuses to sit the exam is not fulfilling their obligation under the terms of their CPF funding.
What to Explain to the Trainee
The Caisse des Dépôts et Consignations (CDC) can request reimbursement of training costs from a trainee who does not complete the certified programme. This is not a threat — it is in the general terms and conditions the trainee accepted when opening their CPF dossier.
A common reason trainees refuse is anxiety about failing. Remind them that English 360° issues a certificate or attestation regardless of the result — it reflects their current level, not a pass or fail. There is nothing to "fail" in the sense of walking away without a document.
If the Trainee Still Refuses
Cancel the test on your English 360° dashboard. A justification is required.
Take the necessary steps to cancel or close the CPF dossier, which may require coordination with the CDC and Mon Compte Formation.
English 360° must still declare a result (or a non-completion) to France Compétences for this dossier. A missing result is not a neutral outcome for your reporting.
What to Document
Keep a record of the following in case of an audit:
Your communication with the trainee
Their stated reason for refusal
The steps you took to handle the situation
Frequently Asked Questions
Can we force a trainee to take the exam?
No. But you can — and should — clearly communicate the consequences of not taking it, which include potential repayment of CPF funds.
What if the trainee is simply not ready?
Consider offering additional preparation time or a diagnostic assessment before the certification date. English 360° preparation resources are available on the partner dashboard.
Does a refusal affect our OF metrics?
Yes. Non-completions affect your participation rate, which is tracked alongside your pass rate.
